i am giving a presentation to a mom's group tomorrow on media literacy and preschoolers. i tivo-ed some non-pbs kid's shows, and i feel like my brain has just shrunk. even shows people had mentioned as being ok are full of stereotypes - sure, kim possible saves the world, but her best friend is catty and she obsesses over her makeup... and then there are the power rangers and the violent animation - no wonder vocabularies are shrinking, it's all just pow! boom! ouch!i'm bringing some photos of the bratz (left) to get the conversation going.
on npr (what a public broadcasting elitist i have become, so sad) today they mentioned this new show, wordgirl - which sounds pretty awesome.
